I posted this 'airspace for dummies' on my club mail list after I spent ages trying to get airmaps on my map 76 c. Some of the links may be out of date now, but I hope it's helpful. Also there's a long thread on this here http://www.paraglidingforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2201
Re seeing the airmaps on mapsource once installed, if installed correctly, at the top left of the mapsource page there should be a box that says European Metroguide or similar. Scroll down in this and you should see the airspace option?
My guide is below
(The 'easy way' comment refers to the other method involving installing into Mapsource. Which I did eventually manage to do as well.)
Before altering the reg file it's wise to create a sytem restore point in case yo b.gger it all up and can't get Mapsource working at all.
Hi Jon
As requested...
When you connect your Garmin to your pc does it know it's there? You should have loaded usb drivers and trip manager from cd that came with gps? If not load the usb driver that came on the cd with the GPS.
Full details on installing driver and trip manager etc on the leaflet with the cd. If pc still can't find gps when you try to use trip manager, try switching off the pc, and firing up again with GPS switched on and connected. That's what I had to do to get my pc to find it?
Loading files.
Easy way. You may lose your uk basemap display? (Other way too complicated.)
Download the img2 gps program from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mdipol/img2gps/ and when asked 'open or save', save to desktop.
click on downloaded file on desktop and it will install the software. Select display icon on desktop.
download 'transparent airmaps' from http://www.surepower.co.uk/Airmaps.htm select save to desktop.
it is a zipped file so will need to be unzipped. So ...create a new folder on desktop called ?? UK Airspace.
Click on zipped airspace file and it will ask 'where do you want this unzipped to? Select 'different folder' and browse and find your new desktop airspace folder. Unzip to there.
Now check/open the Airspace file on the desktop. Should be 8 files in it. They look like img files but you can't open them as images.
Close the file.
Now open the new img2 program you have installed. Plug in gps via usb cable supplied. Leave i/o port on prog on auto.
I reduced speed to 38400. Click on load folder and in 'look in' find the airspace folder on your desktop. Click on 'open.' 6 files appear in the window. Click on open again, 6 files appear in files window on img2 programme. check the click on boxes, or select all.
Click on upload to gps. Provided the pc knows your gps is there (switched on!) it will begin to transfer the files. Don't unplug gps until it's display changes from startup page.
When finished you may need to go into gps map menu and select the airspace map as the one you want to see?
This is all as with win xp, may be some variation with others?
Hope this is helpful?
